Kings Canyon Watarrka National Park

Kings Canyon, Watarrka National Park, Northern Territory

On the western edge of the George Gill Ranges, the spectacular Kings Canyon overlooks a 270 metre drop that sweeps across the rugged rock formations and bushland of the Watarrka National Park. In between the protective crevices of the canyon, pools of water and prehistoric tropical palms create inviting havens for many rare animal species from the searing desert heat. The area is also home to striking natural rock formations, such as the domes of the Lost City, which hold particular spiritual and cultural significance to the local Luritja people. Adventurers can camp overnight on the Giles Track, or enjoy a more comfortable stay in a motel or resort.
